I was curious what remains if anything of the building where John Jeffiff and Co. conducted business, so I did a bit of research the other day.  Jelliff was located at 794-796 Broad St., Newark, NJ.  If you examine the photograph below, you will see a store with a red banner that says "SA Stores" which is a "5 and dime" type of store.  The external shape of the building today seem to match the one interior shot from the later part of the 19th century that I am aware of.

Just an item of somewhat trival interest.

Fun! Hey, Newark doesn't look so bad...:)

The fenestration pattern seems to indicate that this is an early 20th century commercial building. They may have radically altered the 19th century shell at the time, or simply constructed a new building.

Can I assume you've never been there?  :o
Though I lived in Gotham for 5 years, I never made the journey to Newark.

And yes, my comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek :)
